Why Do Some Insurance Policies Perform Underwriting Post-Claim?

Why do some insurance policies perform underwriting post-claim?
Long Term Disability - Question 61
In short, post-claim underwriting is done by insurance companies in order to investigate whether they can find a valid ground to deny coverage or payment on the claim. It is a practice that is used most frequently in creditor insurance policies, such as Mortgage Life and Critical Illness policies where the sole basis of the policy issuance depends on whether you answer yes to any of the health history questions on the application. Insurance offered on the basis of "no medical required" would fall into this category and consumers should be wary of sales pitches suggesting that "everyone qualifies".
