Why Has The Life Insurance Company Returned Premiums Rather Than Payout?

I am the beneficiary of my mother’s life insurance policy. When she passed away at the age of 69, the insurance company denied me the $200,000 benefit amount, accusing my mother of giving fraudulent answers when she had first purchased the policy over 15 years ago. They have mailed me a cheque in the sum of $30,000, the total premiums she had paid over the years. What should I do?
Life Insurance - Question 6
You should not cash the cheque until you have had a lawyer review the reason that they have sent this to you. If they are alleging fraud, you should request their decision in writing as well as any documentation they are relying upon in support of that decision and you should have it reviewed by a lawyer with expertise in insurance before doing anything further. You should not delay in seeking legal advice as all claims have deadlines.
