Can A Person Go On Long Term Disability Instead Of Going On EI?

After using sick time and vacation time does a person have to go on EI or can they go straight to long term disability?
Disability Benefits - Question 47
EI sick benefits are 15 weeks. If you are disabled you should not be applying for EI regular but you can apply for EI sick benefits. The policy between your employer and the insurance company may require you to apply for EI first before applying for long term disability benefits. The best strategy would be to apply for both at the same time.
